Profile

Linley

"David Linley has brought a fresh, ageless attitude to furniture and accessories and living in our time. He is already a classic". BILL BLASS

David Linley founded the business in 1985. His goal was to design and manufacture furniture of the highest quality. Some 20 years on, LINLEY now enjoys prominence as both a retail and bespoke business specializing in the design and production of furniture, upholstery, interiors, lighting and accessories of a superlative quality. With the recent appointment of a new CEO, Fraser Stuart Allan, the focus of the company over the next five years will be on the expansion of the retail business, which began with the opening of a second LINLEY shop in Autumn 2005.

David Linley trained at Parnham House, The School for Craftsmen in Wood. On leaving he set up a cabinet-making business with fellow craftsmen, later branching out on his own, opening the first LINLEY shop on the New Kings Road in 1985. At the time of its opening, Sir Roy Strong (then Director of the V&A) commented that 'David Linley's furniture will become the antiques of the future'. In 1993, the shop moved to new premises at 60 Pimlico Road, an area renowned for antiques and fine furniture. The second LINLEY shop opened in Autumn 2005 at 46 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London W1, off Old Bond Street.

Over the years, LINLEY has built up both a national and international presence with a quarter of its customer base from overseas. Commissions have ranged from individual domestic pieces such as dining tables, games tables and jewellery boxes to entire interior design projects including private residences and commercial projects such as suites at Claridge's and the complete refurbishment of the restaurant at The Goring Hotel. LINLEY has also made furniture for yachts (Lady Moura, Savannah and Phocea) and worked on corporate projects for businesses including Credite Suisse, Polygram and EMI. Clients include Oprah Winfrey, Carolina Herrera, Jo Malone, David Tang and many exceptional designers such as Peter Marino, David Easton, Kelly Hoppen, Joanna Wood and Nina Campbell.

LINLEY has become known for its imaginative use of wood in the design of furniture, using a balance of traditional and modern techniques to achieve the best possible result whether for an individual piece or an entire fitted room. Woods used range from the more traditional walnut and sycamore to bold and exotic Macassar ebony. The company has developed expertise in working in a variety of disciplines and is skilled in the use of metal work, glass, leather and other materials used in interior design and decoration projects.

LINLEY provides a fully comprehensive interior design service for both residential and commercial environments, but can also work in partnership with other specialists whether interior decorators, architects or specialists in technology.

LINLEY products are sold at LINLEY, 60 Pimlico Road, Belgravia, London SW1 and 46 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London W1. Accessories are available on-line at www.davidlinley.com
