Profile

Hamilton & Inches

‘ The Luxury Goods Star of Scotland’
VOGUE

Scotland’s leading jeweller, Hamilton & Inches, is a world player in the luxury goods sector. The company is renowned for the service and craftsmanship that have been at the heart of the business since it was founded in Edinburgh in 1866. Hamilton & Inches holds a Royal Warrant, as Silversmiths to HM The Queen and has an international reputation for hand crafted silverware that is made in the company’s workshop. In 2000 the unique combination of fine and contemporary jewellery, award-winning silverware and Scottish style that is H&I, was taken to London with the opening of a boutique store in Knightsbridge.

The strength and individuality of the company is best expressed through the silver workshop. Three floors of traditional workshops lie above the Edinburgh store, providing a home to the some of the UK’s finest silver craftsmen. The original tools and benches are still in use but whilst Hamilton & Inches methods are steeped in tradition the designs and collections produced have a distinctly contemporary feel.

The workshop also thrives on special commissions, with recent ones including a pair of four light candelabra commissioned by the Silver Trust for use in 10 Downing Street and the first ever Triple Crown trophy for the victor of the home nations contest within the Six Nations international rugby competition. Private commissions are encouraged by Hamilton & Inches, as their workshops are one of the last places in the UK you can visit the craftsmen at every stage of the production process.
