Profile

Christopher Hyde

Christopher Hyde specialises in exclusive lighting for prestige interiors and outdoors designed for residential and leisure locations. The company is owned and run by Christopher Hyde who established it in 1994 and has a showroom at The Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour, London.

Christopher Hyde himself is chief designer of most of the lights in the collection and his passion and knowledge of art and architecture is evident in the historically inspired designs, elegant proportions, fine detail and distinguished quality, which are the hallmarks of each piece. A highly informed spokesperson for the company both on lighting and lighting design, Christopher is also an advocate of rigorously high quality standards and employs expertly trained craftsmen in Italy to make the collection.

The company sells both in the UK and abroad and accepts special commissions. Christopher Hyde lighting graces country houses, luxury apartments and boutique hotels around the world.

The current collection comprises:

  • Table lamps
  • Traditional wall and ceiling
  • Crystal wall and ceiling
  • Lanterns and outdoor
  • Picture lights

Recent additions to the collection include occasional furniture such as console and coffee tables.

There are six periods and design influences running throughout the collection: Georgian, Empire, Rococo, Flemish, Art Deco and Edwardian and 17 different metal finishes from which to choose for most items in the collection. Many of these finishes have been developed by Christopher Hyde to replicate those of yesteryear but adapted to the requirements of the modern day client who wants stable and long-lasting finishes which require little cleaning. Some of the more unusual finishes include Ormolu gold plate, pumice, ivory gold and antique silver plate.
