A large group of members from near and far braved a rather bracing summer day by the sea to attend a BIID seminar at the University of Brighton Design Archives.  Thought provoking lectures on eco design from Oliver Heath and art glass by Mike Johansson were followed by lunch and a tour of the sumptuous, but not very eco-friendly Royal Pavilion - conserving energy was not top of George IV’s priority list with winter banquets lit by gas lamps above the glazed roof as well as awe-inspiringly huge chinoiserie chandeliers inside.

Back to the University in the afternoon, where BIID members were joined by South Coast Design Forum and RIBA members for a lecture by Dr Catherine Moriarty on the Design Archive and a panel discussion on that old chestnut, interior designers vs. architects.  Well done to the Southern Region Committee for their hard work in organising a fascinating day
