The British Interior Design Association is delighted to announce Diana Yakeley’s election as chairman and to welcome three new members onto the board of directors.
Diana Yakeley brings a wealth of experience to the role of BIDA Chairman, from fashion photography through to architecture and interior design. Her book ‘Indoor Gardening’ has been translated into many languages and sold worldwide. Diana was instrumental in publication of the BIDA/RIBA Form of appointment for Interior Design Services (ID/05), and is determined to raise the professional profile of Interior Designers during her term as chairman. ‘My remit for the year ahead is to address the need for more guidelines on professional practice for designers in a time of greater regulation and legislation’ Diana Yakeley, Chairman BIDA.
Paul Goodchild joins the board with the new position of Development Director and will use his experience of strategic planning, project co-ordination and management within a commercial design company to develop the aims and objectives of the organization and promote understanding of the modern role of interior design within society and industry. Paul is a Chartered Designer as well as being a full member of BIDA and an affiliated member of RIBA. He brings over 25 years’ experience in design to his award winning practice, Goodchild Interiors Ltd.
Iris Dunbar has been a practicing designer and teacher since the seventies. Her experience ranges from working on new build projects within an architectural team to running her own practice and, for the past 15 years, directing The Interior Design School. Iris will use her considerable experience to oversee BIDA’s educational and Continued Professional Development activities and is keen to broaden our involvement with design students and educational establishments.
Michelle Kauffmann will represent Associate Members’ interests on the BIDA board, to ensure that newer practitioners of interior design receive the support they need from our association. Michelle was educated in the USA, France and Switzerland, but in 2000 changed her career path, moving from the fast pace of large consumer-goods companies to creating luxury interiors. Subsequently she set up her own company, MK Interior Design, in London.
