Keeping each other sweet at Edinburgh's newly opened Hotel Missoni

Published on:11/11/2009

British Institute of Interior Design President, Iris Dunbar welcomed both members and guests to an exuberant event at the newly opened Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh at the end of October.

Membership Director, Janet Jones kicked off the day by speaking about the future impact of the BIDA's transformation to the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID)* and the importance of belonging to the leading professional body representing the interior design industry. BIID members form a collective of expert interior designers committed to the highest standards of professional practice and the BIID is now stronger than ever, furthering the impact and influence of the industry.

In a seminar entitled 'Keeping each other Sweet' Corporate Director, Neil Stevenson spoke about the interface between Corporate members and practicing Interior Designers. He stressed that in light of the current recession there is a need for suppliers and interior designers to work in tandem.

The day concluded with 'Time is Money' a Professional Practice Seminar which examined recognition and remuneration within interior design. The seminar was chaired by Kate Ainslie Williams, a BIID Member and former president, UK Chapter IIDA, along with a panel of interior designers including Mary Leslie and Ian Smith. It provided a lively opportunity for members to debate the challenges they face in creating fee structures which genuinely reflect their true worth as professional designers.
