Competition launches to find Britain's Best Home Renovation - offering 5,000 prize

Published on:07/10/2010
Britain's home owners spend £11 billion a year* on home renovations and over the past two years of economic uncertainty more and more of us have improved or extended our homes rather than moving.
When people do move, a home's renovation is often a trigger to move up the ladder. Fifteen percent of all homes listed on Primelocation.com (or nearly 100,000 properties) have been wholly or partly renovated recently.
To highlight this and celebrate the nation's passion for home renovation, decoration and interior design, Britain's Best Home Renovation Competition has been launched, looking for the country's ultimate home makeover project.
"The judges will be looking out for breadth of vision and searching for a very special home renovation project that's gone that extra mile creatively," Amber Rampley, marketing director at Winkworth, one of the UK's leading estate agents and main sponsor of the competition.
The renovation has to have been completed between September 1st 2009 and 30th September 2010 within a property owned by anyone entering the competition, and each entrant will be asked to submit a short "pitch" of between 300 and 500 words, details of the property and its address, and pictures before and after pictures.
All entries to the competition will be judged in the first instance by a panel of interior design experts including representatives from the British Institute of Interior Design, after which a short list of up to ten properties will be visited by judges and a winner announced.
Britain's Best Home Renovation Competition is being organised by Primelocation.com, sponsored by estate agent Winkworth and supported by the British Institute of Interior Design.
