Climate Week Reception
Published on:11/11/2010
When Anna Whitehead, (Environmental Committee founder) and I accepted an invitation to attend the Reception at Westminster Hall for the Launch of Climate Week, we were not prepared for the exceptional support this initiative has already achieved with over 800 delegates in attendance. Supported by government the aim of this project is to provide a catalyst to engage and inspire all parts of society to seek change and solutions, through the organisations and networks they are involved in.
It is the brainchild of social campaigner, Kevin Steele, who has worked closely with government on issues such as social action, enterprise and the Big Society and run successful campaigns such as Global Entrepreneurship Week and the fantastically successful community project - The Big Lunch.
Gathered to hear the introduction from Gregory Barker MP, Minister for Energy and Climate Change, and speeches from senior management from headline partners EDF Energy, Aviva, Royal Bank of Scotland, Tesco and Kellogs, was an extraordinarily broad range of representation. This included business, culture and sport, education, embassies, fashion, media, professional associations and unions, public sector and statutory bodies, religious organisations, science, think-tanks, voluntary sector and campaigns, parliamentarians, government and local government.
