At a special evening to celebrate the completion of 13 years restoring the Garrick Club’s interiors, the Club Chairman, Acton Davis, presented Christopher Vane Percy with The Garrick Medal.  The medal, first awarded in 2000, was conceived as a way of thanking people who have contributed more than could normally have been expected to the life of the Club.

In thanking the Chairman, Christopher Vane Percy emphasized the importance of the support he had received from the Works of Art Committee and from all of the ‘team’ involved in restoring the Garrick’s High Victorian Clubland Style.

“The Garrick may be first and foremost a club, but, as guardian of the world’s greatest collection of theatrical paintings, it now has a coherence and gravitas which, in the past, was sadly lacking.  For me it has been a great joy, and also a great honour, to have been a part of this achievement”.

The medal, of which only five have been awarded to date, is based on the Lewis Pingo medal of 1772.  This celebrated design was the source of the very important Wedgwood Jasperware portrait of Garrick himself.
