Published on:29/09/2008

Ben Whistler has been awarded the British Interior Design Association’s ‘Award for Best Stand Design’ Silver Swing Tag for its stand design at Decorex International. The custom furniture specialist based the stand on a traditional Arabian dhow complete with sail, mast and aft deck draped with fabric sunshades. This year’s judges, BIDA interior designer members James Charles, Christina Fallah and Sarah Ward were particularly impressed with the strong theme and effort that was put in to creating the stand.

The BIDA is also annually invited to present fifteen swing tags for ‘Products of Outstanding Quality and Design Innovation’. Winners at Decorex International 2008 include Archer& Smith with its beautifully crafted Art Deco table and Limestone Gallery’s simple yet striking marble sink. Noted for their sustainable efforts were winners Chloe Alberry with a cricket ball door handle made from used cricket balls and a desk made from a galvanised water tank by Antiques by Design.

A large pink leather game cube with a different game on each side was also chosen as a product winner by the judges. Geoffrey Parker Games has designed the 1m3 with popular board games including Cluedo, Monopoly and Backgammon.

Other winners of the ‘Products of Outstanding Quality and Design Innovation’ are Best & Lloyd, De Ferranti, Fromental, Godrich Design Collective, John Richard, Origins Design, Pongees Silks, The Rug Company, Wendy Cushing Passementerie and Andrew Martin International.

The sterling Silver Swing Tag was designed and produced by Hamilton & Inches, renowned for the service and craftsmanship that have been at the heart of the business since it was founded in Edinburgh in 1866.
