Profile

Karen White / Source Interiors Limited

American born, Karen White is a London designer with wide international experience. She has spent over 25 years creating interesting spaces to suit the requirements of private and corporate clients. House & Garden’s Directory of the UK’s Leading Hundred Designers has listed her since 1998.

Karen has extensive history of designing corporate headquarters, as well as renovating older homes, both in London and the country. Employing a broad range of skills, she is known for:

  • Innovative kitchen design, beautiful bathrooms and excellent storage solutions for people with ‘things’.
  • Designing special furniture: see following photos
  • Use of fine artists to achieve special effects. See photos of painted furniture, ceilings and trompe l’oie.
  • Working with possessions people already have: furniture, art collections, books, antiques. But happy also to start fresh, supplying everything, including the latest DVDs and fresh flowers.
  • Her focus on lighting: balancing natural and artificial light for both ambient and task lighting.
  • Creative use of traditional and contemporary furniture, often combining them.
  • Careful attention given to heating, ventilation, audio-visual and soundproofing.

Karen acquired wide-ranging knowledge of fabrics and soft furnishings during seven years in Hong Kong. There she founded Source Interiors and was the exclusive agent for Osborne & Little, Manuel Canovas, Lelievre, Colefax & Fowler and other fine textile producers. She also worked extensively in the Mandarin Hotel.

She prides herself on not having a particular ‘look’. Instead she responds to the clients’ wishes and their style, and to the architecture and budget. Her aim: Creating rooms that work and that people are happy to be in.

Karen is available by telephone or by appointment at her London office. Projects small and large are undertaken. On-site consultations are arranged at hourly or day rates.
