Ruth Ackers / in and out design

Ruth Ackers, owner of in and out design, is a designer who has a passion for practical, aesthetically pleasing design that works. “The design must work from the inside out, giving consideration not only to the architecture and the look, but also the day to day practicalities of how the space will be used and function.” Working from her studio in Essex, Ruth covers the Essex area and London, working on both residential and small commercial projects. Ruth’s commercial projects included an office re-design, focusing on ergonomics and space optimization. “I started with an empty, soulless warehouse and transformed the space into a cutting edge professional headquarters befitting the status of the company”. Residential projects included a single storey extension on a Victorian property; from the early stages of planning and design, to creating a complete lighting scheme for the new space, sourcing and procurement as well as project co – ordinating on site and liaising with all trades and contractors. Ruth has also designed and supervised the construction of a Garden Gymnasium, obtaining the relevant permissions from the local council, designing the space, co-ordinating the build phase and then sourcing and procurement of the equipment to furnish the completed gym. “You the Client, and your requirements are key; choosing to have me do as little or as much as is wanted – from producing a decorative scheme for one room, to a full design service which could include technical drawings, specifications and designs for multiple rooms”. “It always starts with taking a Brief and then applying my experience and understanding to deliver a bespoke solution that not only looks good, but works”. “You have the dream; I have the vision, knowledge and expertise to make it happen”.
