Profile
Anthony Paine / Anthony Paine Limited
Architectural and Interior Designer Anthony Paine is a fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers, a fellow of the British Interior Design Association, has been a member of the Artworkers Guild since 1990 (Honorary Secretary 1993 – 2004).
He uses the classical architectural language with a modern sensibility in a contemporary context. Dynamic planning, wit and fine detailing are applied to all projects whether a new house, shop interior or a piece of bespoke furniture.
He exhibited at the British Interior Design Exhibition in London in 1988 (neoclassical bathroom) and 1990 when he won The World of Interiors award for the Rotunda Bookroom.
In 1994 Anthony Paine won a limited competition to design Gieves & Hawkes’ flagship store at Nos.1 & 2 Savile Row which he completely remodelled with great success. In 2000 he was asked to develop an architectural concept for the Gieves & Hawkes brand and has subsequently produced a detailed design manual which has acted as a blueprint for their 60 stores worldwide including Sloane Square, Selfridges, Bath, Beijing, Leeds, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo.
As well as remodelling, extending and decorating many houses (favourite period 1790-1830) his work has included a hotel in Frankfurt, Georgian shops in Spitalfields, a new traditional wooden chalet in Gstaad, an extended farmhouse complex in Provence and a folly beside the Baltic. Current projects include a new-build private palace in Morocco and a classical villa in Bavaria.
