Jenny Gibbs – President

Jenny Gibbs

Jenny is responsible for the strategic development of the Institute. Her key objectives are to work closely with Council, committees and other groups within the design community, nationally and internationally and continue the well respected work of the Institute as the leading industry body for professional interior designers. She is the founder and Principal of KLC School of design and author of four books on the history and practice of interior design.

Diana Yakeley – President Elect, Education and Professional Practice Director

Diana Yakeley

Diana's key objectives are to encourage good practice and professional standards within the interior design industry by providing information on a wide range of subjects, from new legislation, sustainability and industry related issues. She has written books on design, as well as professional practice and contracts.




Iris Dunbar – Past President

Iris Dunbar

As Past President Iris will continue to support the Education committee, building relationships with educational establishments and working towards an externally validated qualification. There will be a continued involvement with the strategic development of the Institute as well as providing the Council with experienced advice by liaising with the audit committee and Past President's club. Iris has worked within a cross section of Interior Design, from multidisciplinary consultancy to independent practitioner and educator.

Mark Bithrey – Marketing and Communications Director

Mark Bithrey

Mark works to communicate the British Institute of Interior Design's mission and objectives through devising material offers, developing brand awareness and strategic marketing. Mark has worked in developing branded architectural interiors for more than fifteen years in leisure-dominated agencies. In addition to working for a range of practices he founded B3 Designers in 2002 where he is the acting Design Director. Under his directorship the company has developed a diverse and award-winning portfolio.

Christopher Vane Percy – Heritage and Environment Director

Christopher works to further the Institute's work in the fields of heritage and the environment. He is an established interior designer, Regional Chairman of the Historic Houses Association for East Anglia Region and is a committee member of the East of England Historic Environment Forum.




Janet Jones – Membership Director

Janet Jones

Janet's aims are to increase membership outside the London area, develop a well defined progression from student to associate to full membership and to ensure the membership retains the highest standards of professionalism. She is an established interior designer with her own practice.




Mary Barber Fray – Operations and Finance Director

Mary Barber Fray

Mary aims to continue strengthening existing management reporting and control procedures, to enable Council and executive staff to plan and monitor costs and income on a timely basis. She will also be responsible for developing staff and office procedures, IT and premises, helping to provide a sound basis for the current and planned growth of the Institute. Mary brings her wide experience as a professional accountant and management consultant to the role.


Neil Stevenson – Industry Partner Director

Neil Stevenson

Neil's key aims are to enhance the professional standards of both designers and suppliers and by doing so increase the commercial activity between them with improved the project delivery performance. Neil is a furniture designer and maker with his own company supplying bespoke furniture and specialist joinery into premium projects.




Sue Timney – Outreach Director

Sue Timney

Sue is responsible for working on exhibitions, parties and charity links. She aims to forge external contacts and develop new relationships with industry. She runs a design practice, Sue Timney Ltd, and Timney Fowler a fabric company. Sue is a Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art and is currently working on a Design Biography to be launched later this year in conjunction with a range of Home branded products for a large department Store.
